The John Justice trained Mufasa Metro prevailed in a thrilling finish to win the Group 2 Cranbourne Trotters Cup on Saturday night.

The New Zealand bred son of Father Patrick was the sole starter from the second row and bided his time at the back of the field before making a move with a mile to go to sit up outside the leader and race favourite, Im Ready Jet.

With Kyvalley Hot Spur tiring, Mufasa Metro was able to slot into the trail with 800m to run and get a bit of breather, before angling out at the top of the straight and wearing the mare down with each stride to score by a half neck.

After a string of feature race placings in the past few months, including runner-up finishes in the Inter Dominion Trotters Final and the Aldebaran Park Maori Mile, it was a deserved win for Mufasa Metro who took his overall record to 12 wins and $372,855 in stakes earnings.

Mufasa Metro is out of the Group 1 winning Safely Kept mare Paris Metro.
