Vincent filly too good in Group 1 Westbred Classic
Reinette, a daughter of Vincent, produced a barn storming finish to win the Group 1 2YO Fillies Westbred Classic at Gloucester Park on Friday night.
Starting from the inside of the second row, Reinette spent much of the race three-back on the running rail before being angled out with 400m to go.
Once off the rail, the Frank Nafranec trained filly charged home four wide rounding the final turn and fought out a stirring home straight duel with the race favourite Copper Head Lady, getting the better of her in the final strides to prevail by a half head at the line.
There was a gap of 17m back to the third placed horse Bull Shark Betty.
The winner of five races from 10 starts to date, Reinette has now banked $160,676 in stakes earnings.
Bred by Dennis Roche, Reinette is out of the six-win Somebeachsomewhere mare Aqueensomewhere, a half-sister to the dual Group 1 winning juvenile Getaway Plan and the multiple stakes winner Jumbo Operator.
With his oldest progeny just four years of age this season, Vincent has got off to a strong start at stud with more than 130 winners to date, including ten stakes winners.
