Son of Vincent claims Yearling Sales Series Aged Classic
The Hayden Cullen trained Wish Me Luck prevailed in a tight finish to the Listed NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales Series Aged Classic at Kaikoura yesterday afternoon.
The 4-year-old son of Vincent bobbled away slightly from the standing start but was quickly into his gear and settled third on the running rail before being hunted up by driver Blair Orange to take the lead.
Challenged fiercely by last yearʻs runner-up Lester in the home straight, Wish Me Luck fought doggedly to win by a head at the line.
Stakes placed at two and unraced at three, Wish Me Luck (pictured as a yearling) is enjoying a terrific season this year as a 4-year-old, with five wins and four placings from just 10 starts and overall career earnings now of $81,385.
Part owned by Nevele R Stud, he is out of the Roll With Joe mare Iʻm So Lucky, an unraced daughter of the 2004 Group 1 Nevele R Fillies Series Final winner Turkana.
He was purchased at the 2021 NZB Standardbred Christchurch Yearling Sale for $45,000 from the draft of Studholme Bloodstock Ltd.
Vincentʻs progeny are continuing to do a good job in New Zealand and he is currently fourth on the NZ 4YO Pacing Stallions Premiership with his oldest crop, behind only Art Major, Sweet Lou and Bettorʻs Delight.
