Greenshoe trots to 1:49.8 Bluegrass Stakes victory
Brilliant Father Patrick 3-year-old, Greenshoe was in a league of his own again at The Red Mile, Lexington Kentucky today, effortlessly trotting a sub 1:50 mile to comfortably win the first of two $96,000 Bluegrass Stakes divisions for 3-year-old trotting colts and geldings.
The Marcus Melander trained colt raced in third spot before clearing to the lead at the three-quarter point and distancing his rivals, eventually running out a four-length winner over talented stablemate and recent Yonkers Trot winner Gimpanzee.
The win was Greenshoe’s ninth of the season and 11th overall, with his share of the Bluegrass prize-money taking his lifetime earnings to $1,016,273.
He is currently the richest trotter in North America in 2019, along with the fastest 3-year-old and second fastest all-age trotter.
Greenshoe is the first foal of the world champion trotting filly Designed To Be, a $600,000 plus earning daughter of Donato Hanover. A full brother, named Maverick, is set to go under the hammer in the opening session of the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale on Wednesday (NZ time).
