Greenshoe crowned US 3YO Trotting Colt of the Year
Superstar trotting colt Greenshoe has been named the 2019 Dan Patch US 3YO Trotting Male of the Year, with the US Harness Writers Association overwhelmingly voting for the brilliant son of Father Patrick by a margin of 123 votes to 22.
Greenshoe was the highest earning trotter overall in North America during 2019, with stakes-winnings of $1.27 million.
The Marcus Melander trained colt won 10 of his 13 starts and was placed second in his remaining three, and suffered from interference in two of those runner-up results.
His biggest victories included the Kentucky Futurity, Zweig Memorial and the Stanley Dancer Memorial. He was also victorious in both the New Jersey and Kentucky Sire Stakes Championships.
He took his career best mark in the Bluegrass Stakes at The Red Mile, with a dominant 1:49.8 performance, and incredibly recorded six sub 1:51 winning miles during 2019 – the most ever by a 3-year-old trotter.
A $330,000 Lexington Select purchase, Greenshoe is out of the world champion Donato Hanover mare Designed To Be and was bred by Al Libfeld and Marvin Katz.
Greenshoe stands his first season at Hanover Shoe Farms this year, at a fee of $US25,000, and is already fully booked for the upcoming breeding season.
