Father Patrick progeny star in Grand Circuit action at The Red Mile
The progeny of Father Patrick was in terrific form at the opening round of the Grand Circuit action at The Red Mile in Lexington Kentucky today, with Gangster Hanover and Amigo Volo trouncing their rivals in their respective Bluegrass Stakes divisions for two-year-old trotting colts and geldings and the latter setting a world record for a gelding.
In the first of the three $105,500 splits the Ake Svanstedt trained Gangster Hanover put paid to his rivals with a devastating 26.4 second last quarter, with the youngster clearing out to a massive nine and a quarter length victory in a scintillating 1:52.6 – the second equal fastest time recorded by a 2yo trotter in North America this year.
The Father Patrick colt has now won three of his five starts and $114,522 in stakes.
A $275,000 Harrisburg Yearling Sales purchase Gangster Hanover is beautifully bred, being out of a stakes winning full-sister to the US Horse of the Year Glidemaster.
In the final Bluegrass division, the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Championship runner-up Amigo Volo was just as impressive, striding out to a seven length win in a new world record of 1:52.6 for a 2-year-old trotting gelding on a mile track.
It was the third win, and the second world record, for the Carter Pinske trained freshman, with the gelding having banked $168,646 in prize-money to date in his first season of racing.
Purchased for $42,000 at the 2018 Lexington Select Sale, Amigo Volo is out of the $600,000 plus earning Yankee Glide mare Margarita Momma, making him a full brother to last year’s Kindergarten Classic Final winner, Reign Of Honor.
