Exciting three-year-old trotter Greenshoe cemented himself as one of this year’s leading Hambletonian contenders with a stunning, open lengths victory in the $200,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Final for 3YO Trotting Colts and Geldings at The Meadowlands on Saturday (NZ time).

The Marcus Melander trained son of Father Patrick settled mid-field off the gate before sweeping to the lead at the completion of the first half. At that stage the race was as good as over, with Greenshoe drawing further and further in front to cross the line, untouched, six lengths ahead of another son of Father Patrick in Reign Of Honor, who made up good ground in the straight to take second. Watch replay.

Greenshoe’s time of 1:50.4 was not only a career best for the three-year-old square-gaiter but also the fastest time recorded for a trotting race in North American for the year to date.

The two-time New Jersey Sire Stakes champion has now won four of six lifetime starts for earnings of $189,223.

A $330,000 Lexington Select purchase, Greenshoe is the first foal of the $600,000 plus earning, Hambletonian Oaks runner-up Designed To Be (Donato Hanover).
