Daughters of Creatine quinella Listed Matriarch Trot

Creatine sired the first two runners home in Saturday nightʻs Listed Matriarch Trot at Melton, with the New Zealand bred 4-year-old Virginia Clowers defeating the 2024 Group 1 Sumthingaboutmaori Mares Free For All runner-up Lady Adelia.

The Brent Lilly trained Virginia Clowers led the quality field of trotting mares for the majority of the 2,240m race and had plenty in reserve in the straight to hold off the chasing pack by just over a length at the line.

Lady Adelia, who galloped early and found herself at the back of the field recovered well to sprint home for second.

It was Virginia Clowers fifth win from just six starts this season and took her overall record to nine wins and $99,928 in stakes earnings.

Virginia Clowers is out of the Sundon mare Gina, making her a half sister to the $100,000 earners Clifton Clowers and Time In A Bottle, with the former placed in the New Zealand Trotting Derby behind Escapee back in 2012.

Lady Adelia has also forged a strong record to date with 10 wins and earnings of $97,860.

She is the first foal of the three-win Skyvalley mare Aldebaran Shelley.
