The Gay McClymont trained Creatine mare Styrax recorded one of New Zealandʻs biggest winning margins when streeting her rivals by a stunning 35 and a half lengths at Wyndham on Friday afternoon.

The 5-year-old began smartly from the stand and was soon in front.

Trotting boldly throughout Styrax slipped the field in the back straight and just kept drawing further away from her rivals with each stride, and despite being under a hold by driver Tony Stratford crossed the line almost the length of a rugby field, at around 85m, clear of the second placed horse.

It was the lightly raced mareʻs maiden win, but judging by the ease of it there should  be more in store for her in the coming months.

Bred by Gay and Nick McClymont, Styrax is out of the stakes winning Safely Kept mare Larix.

The record for a winning margin in New Zealand is held by the two-time NZ Trotter of the Year David Moss, who won by 41 lengths at Ascot Park as a 6-year-old early in his career before going on to win a Rowe Cup and two Dominion Handicaps amongst numerous other stakes races.

The previous evening the in-form Creatine gelding Mighty Logan forced his way into Dominion Trot contention with a dominant performance in the Breckon Farms Handicap Trot at Addington on Thursday night.

It was his third win from his last four starts and his eighth win overall.

He has only been out of the first three once this season, having won five from 10 and placed in another four, including twice at stakes level.

Bred by Barry Clark and Diane Clark, Mighty Logan is out of the unraced Sierra Kosmos mare Landoraʻs Siesta, who hails from the maternal family of the Dominion Handicap winning mare Landoraʻs Pride.
